Experience level: None. Our workshop packages below are available to all levels of experience, including complete beginners.
What to wear: Studio appropriate and comfortable clothing is recommended. Please wear closed toe, non-slip shoes, and tie back any long hair.
Mobile Workshops: We are able to travel to you and your group for certain workshops. Please note the packages above that are available for mobile instruction in your space, subject to change.

How to get to Paperhouse Studio
By Car: Green P parking lots are available nearby at 18 Ossington Avenue and 1117 Dundas Street West, with a charge of $1 for every 30 minutes. There is also street parking available on Shaw, Lobb, and Argyle, with a 1 hour limit.
By Transit: Visitors can take the 501 streetcar to Shaw Street, the 63 Ossington bus northbound to Shaw Street, or the 63 Ossington bus southbound to Argyle Street.
Paperhouse requires a 50% non-refundable deposit in order to reserve your booking. This deposit goes toward ordering and preparing the materials required for class and to reserving our artists and instructors’ time. The remaining amount is due at the end of the workshop, on the day of, or prior. Late payments will be subject to interest fees – an additional 5% per week.
Paperhouse Studio’s maximum capacity is at 16 people. If the group has 16 or more participants, it must be split into 2 groups due to health and safety policies. We can book an additional room in the same building, same floor, just down the hallway, in Artscape Youngplace’s Flex Studios.
The Flex Studios can also accommodate large group gatherings, if you are looking for a space for a meeting or event prior to a workshop at Paperhouse, please contact Artscape Youngplace Program and Flex Studio Coordinator, Claire Leighton.
Food / Drinks
Paperhouse Studio has a list of preferred caterers with an excellent reputation of high quality food and service, in addition to being local businesses that are active supporters of the community and the arts. Such sponsors support the arts community by donating to Paperhouse Studio through in-kind sponsorship that allows us to continue our work. Any outside caterers are subjected to an additional fee.
Any alcoholic beverages require a Special Occasion Permit, private event or public event. All clients selecting to bring their own alcoholic drinks must provide Paperhouse Studio with the correct permit and product receipts prior to the event. Permits obtained by clients will hold thus client responsible for the event to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Paperhouse is able to obtain either a private or public event Special Occasion Permit with an additional fee.
We send our quotes via our online accounting system – WAVE. Once estimates are approved, we transition them to invoices and you will be able to pay securely online with a credit card. We also accept Interac e-Transfers, wire transfers and, cheque payments.
We accept cancellations up to 7 business days prior to the start day of the workshop. If you are within the cancellation period, we will refund you the workshop amount minus the non-refundable deposit.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to get settled in. We recommend attendees bring extra studio clothing to change into from work attire or get fitted for aprons and gloves. All workshops start on time, but late arrivals are permitted and instructors will do their best to catch you up and will also ask peers to help each other.
We understand that firm numbers are sometimes hard to give and numbers can change at the last minute. We will provide a quote for an estimate that suits your best guess in numbers, but please provide a maximum number so that we can properly prepare materials and staffing. Typically our classes can accommodate +/- 5-7 guests depending on the medium. We strive to provide the best experience for you and your group and large fluctuations of guests make it difficult for our artists to facilitate workshops.
Handmade Paper, marbling, and indigo dyeing involve wet materials such as ink, pulp, and dye vats. The final products will be wet paper or cloth that naturally, takes time to dry. We suggest leaving wet papers for us to dry in our equipment, ensuring a nice flat sheet of paper, and we can provide shipping services to mail back your dried papers. Wet and damp cloth, such as indigo dyed pillowcases or shirts, can be taken home right after the workshop – participants will be given bags for their dyed items and instructions for line drying.
