Learn to weave a small, decorative basket using paper in this one day class. You will learn the foundations of hand weaving to build sculptural pieces using paper cord, and how to design and integrate decorative elements using colour. You will learn the foundations of hand weaving to build sculptural pieces using paper cord, and how to design and integrate decorative elements using colour. Together we’ll each make several small baskets or one large one as part of the class with hands-on help from the instructor, James.  

James will also demo how to make your own paper cord out of handmade paper for participants to practice and create their own baskets at home with their own papers.  

Students will leave with a paper cord roll and some handmade paper to continue exploring woven baskets at home.

1 day class, 5 hours, 11am - 4pm

Level: Beginner, no experience required in weaving or working with paper.

ARTIST-INSTRUCTOR BIO

James Spyker is a bookbinder and boxmaker who has been avidly learning traditional bookbinding since 1997. James has taught for Toronto District School Board and the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild. He is the proprietor of 2×4 to the forehead, a publisher of books and special things.
