Paper to Book is a beginner friendly, 2 day class that is designed for participants to learn how papermaking and bookbinding can inform each other. You will start by learning basic deckle-box style papermaking in the first class, making thick and decorative cotton and hemp handmade papers for book covers. In the following class, you will learn how to use your handmade papers to make long stitch books. Participants will make enough papers to continue practicing this book model independently or using it in other book forms.

Level: Beginner, no experience in either papermaking or bookbinding required.


ARTIST-INSTRUCTOR BIO

James Spyker is a bookbinder and boxmaker who has been avidly learning traditional bookbinding since 1997. James has taught for Toronto District School Board and the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild. He is the proprietor of 2x4 to the forehead, a publisher of books and special things.
